On April 9, 2025, the Port of Málaga was the scene of a grand celebration as TUI Cruises christened its latest vessel, the Mein Schiff Relax. The event featured a live performance by British pop star Robbie Williams, who serves as the ship's official "feel-good ambassador."
The ceremony began with the arrival of the Mein Schiff Relax at 3:30 PM, greeted by its sister ships, Mein Schiff 5 and Mein Schiff 7, with resounding horn salutes. The three ships docked at the port, creating a spectacular maritime formation and a one-of-a-kind backdrop for the festivities.
At 8:30 PM, Robbie Williams took the stage in an open-air concert area set up between the cruise terminals. Dressed in a white suit, he energized the crowd with hits like "Angels," "Feel," and "Let Me Entertain You," engaging the audience throughout his performance.
Following the concert, the christening ceremony commenced. Giuliana Rizzo, TUI Cruises' Spa & Sport Manager, served as the ship's godmother, breaking a champagne bottle against the hull to officially name the vessel. The event concluded with a dazzling fireworks display that lit up the Málaga skyline.
The Mein Schiff Relax, built by Fincantieri in Italy, is the first in TUI Cruises' new InTUItion class. Measuring 326 meters in length and weighing 161,000 gross tons, the ship can accommodate up to 3,984 passengers across 19 decks. It boasts 14 restaurants, 17 bars and lounges, and a 25-meter pool. Notably, it is the first in the fleet powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG), reflecting TUI Cruises' commitment to sustainable cruising.
This christening marked not only a major milestone for TUI Cruises but also a significant achievement for Málaga Cruise Port. Successfully managing the complex, simultaneous operations of three large cruise ships in a single day—while hosting a high-profile public event—demonstrated the strength and versatility of the port's infrastructure. It also highlighted the outstanding coordination between all stakeholders involved: from port authorities and terminal staff to security, logistics, and cruise line personnel. This seamless orchestration reaffirms Málaga Cruise Port’s position as a key player in the Mediterranean cruise industry and a preferred home for large-scale, world-class events.
