In the aftermath of the devastating floods that have struck the eastern province of Valencia, Global Ports Holding Ltd (GPH) has pledged €250,000 to support emergency response and reconstruction efforts in the region. This disaster, one of Spain’s most severe flooding events in decades, has claimed over 300 lives, with many still missing.
The recent torrential rains have caused widespread devastation, transforming streets into rivers, demolishing homes, and sweeping away thousands of vehicles. GPH extends its deepest condolences to the affected communities and offers heartfelt solidarity with those facing unimaginable loss.
In response to the disaster, the Spanish government has mobilized around 2,000 soldiers from the Military Emergency Unit, supported by 2,500 Civil Guard members and 1,800 national police officers, who have collectively rescued more than 4,500 individuals from the hardest-hit areas. Thousands of volunteers have also joined in, delivering essential supplies and assisting with extensive cleanup operations across the region.
Reflecting its commitment to local communities, GPH, with contributions from all its ports and led by its Spanish team, is donating €250,000 directly to Valencia Government. This united contribution directly supports search, rescue, and reconstruction initiatives, addressing urgent needs within the maritime community and ensuring aid reaches those most affected by the floods.
"Our thoughts are with all those affected by this tragedy," said Javier Rodriguez Sanchez, GPH Regional Director – West Med & Asia, "We are committed to standing with our communities in times of crisis and are grateful to the rescue teams, volunteers, and local authorities who are working tirelessly to bring relief to the region." Alongside this donation, GPH encourages its port network to continue supporting Valencia’s recovery efforts.
